Tall and toned, with piercing blue eyes, he has mastered the arts of wordless intimidation. He may not have the dramatic flair with his wardrobe that some wizards have, but he makes the clean lines and minimalist lack of billows work. Of course, he's not generally acting too menacing, but the potential and skill are there. For a wealthy pureblood wizard, Jan's fashion sense is a little off the beaten path for his class. Does he wear Muggle clothing? Hardly. He just prefers not to be horribly ostentatious and thus his clothing has an elegant simplicity to it. The reasons for his is twofold. First, his tastes run thusly and second, it makes things less likely to get caught in his robes at work. His shorter than strictly fashionable hair is due to the same reasons. and then a little about yourself likes: keeping busy, intellectual challenges, dogs, gourmet food, power, roaring fires, well aged fire whiskey, being amused dislikes: disrespect, putting up with ignoramuses, rodents, young wine, monotony, constrictive clothes, bright lights strengths: intelligent, self-assured, strong-willed, quick thinking, manipulative, patient, Occlumency weaknesses: arrogant, underestimates those he scorns, judgmental, seldom forgives, rarely apologizes, cynical, emotionally stunted boggart: a mirror reflecting nothing at all where he should be erised: being in a position of unlimited power overall personality: Somewhat more cuddly than a cactus, Janus is nevertheless considerably less cuddly than a teddy bear. He is a very proud man, well aware of his keen intelligence and not afraid to use it for unsavory means if it gets him where he wants to go. He's also quite clever; clever enough to seem completely charming and all together innocent, although not always very friendly. He isn't given to trusting people well or often, and while he's more than capable of faking it, it nonetheless gives him a somewhat aloof demeanor most of the time. Janus is at his absolute best when there's a dog around, especially one of his own. He's more relaxed; given more to slight smiles and all around warmer. Away from dogs he can still be pleasant enough to be around, though his sense of humor is generally dry as old bones and his smiles more likely to be wry than warm. Being as he isn't one to forgive or forget though, the only smile someone who has wronged him or his will ever see is ice cold and dangerous. Possessive in a way that generally seems to be nothing but reasonable protectiveness, Janus does not take well to people meddling with that which is his; be it material possessions or otherwise. He doesn't consider himself vengeful, but he's anything but forgiving. For him there are certain lines that should never be crossed. history your family and such parents: Galene Maya Lachesis Adrastia Belmonte nee Morphis, mother, 70, society lady Faunus Ríg Mabon Belmonte, father, 65, Ministry of Magic official siblings: Aiolus Clement Ophion Belmonte, brother, 34, patient at Saint Mungo's mental ward Callista Seline Valdís Belmonte, sister, 24, Auror pets: Ilmatar, eagle owl, 15 years Kamala, Tamaskan Dog, 6 years Otsanda, Czechoslovakian wolfdog, 3 years born: The Belmonte Estate, England, UK overall history: Oh, to be a middle child. Everyone seems to think that middle children have it rough compared to their siblings. Janus never found it to be so. Faunus and Galene Belmonte were not particularly doting parents to any of their children, treating them like miniature adults from almost the time they could talk. While this was especially hard to handle as very young children, it forced the Belmonte children to grow up rather more quickly than their peers. Janus, for one, took oddly well to such a parenting style. Whether it was his innate potential for a high intelligence, his quick, adaptable nature, or some combination of the two, Janus learned a great many unspoken lessons from his parents at a very young age. He learned the merits of being underestimated, the merits of skillful deceit, the merits of careful manipulation, not to mention the dangers of investing strong emotions in anything or -one outside oneself. These lessons and more he took in over the years; years which found him increasingly spending his time in the family library. In part, it was for the seemingly endless knowledge contained within, but the long hours in the library served a dual purpose: they kept him away from his family as well. As a child Janus had no use for his siblings. Aiolus he found completely insufferable, seeing as his older brother got to leave the family estate for most of the year to attend Hogwarts a full four years ahead of Janus. He had a yearly out as well as the insufferable tendency to gloat. As for Callista, she was left to the tender mercies of the nursery from her birth to only a year or so before Janus went off to Hogwarts. For the longest time his having a baby sister was more of a theoretical concept rather than a known fact. Finally, and with absolutely no fanfare whatsoever, Janus received his letter to Hogwarts. It was expected, of course. For his part, Janus was glad to get away from the stiflingly gloomy estate. At Hogwarts he was sorted into Ravenclaw where his thirst for knowledge was encouraged but his standoffish upbringing made him stand out somewhat. In due course he learned to behave in a more normal, less stilted manner and began to truly enjoy his time at Hogwarts. Although not the very first in his class, Janus nevertheless did exceedingly well in his classes. His arrogance and apparent lack or remorse seemed tempered over the course of his Hogwarts years, the jagged edges smoothed by friends and amiable relations. In truth, his years at Hogwarts taught Jan how to keep his composure, how to ingratiate himself to people, and how to blend in. There's still claws under those silken gloves. Perhaps not too surprisingly, Hogwarts did wonders for the Belmonte brothers relationship. There was considerably less antagonism between them once Janus was off to Hogwarts as well. Although they were in different Houses; Janus in Ravenclaw and Aiolus in Gryffindor; there was very little for one to hold over the other and they eventually grew to reach some accord. They never became the best of friends but their relationship was perfectly amiable. After Hogwarts, Janus went on to work in the Department of Mysteries where he became quite skilled at Occlumency. He had known, at that point, that Aiolus was also engaged in Ministry business of some sort. He did not expect, however, to end up actually working with him. It took the two of them a bit of time to develop a good working report but Janus, at least, managed to make things perfectly professional. In time they both ended up on a project with a young woman named Zakiah Dubh. Being the sort of person he was, Janus was perfectly polite and professional with her. Aiolus, on the other hand, quickly became infatuated. At first it wasn't too obvious and Janus was completely indifferent to it. The more they all worked together, however, the more irritated Janus became with his It all came to a head in a very unexpected manner. Aiolus begged Janus to come into work a bit later than anticipated as he wanted a chance to "confess his feeling of undying love to the wonderful woman of his dreams". Seeing as that phrasing was enough to make Janus gag, he agreed. When he arrived to work the next day he was expecting to see Aiolus nursing his bruised feelings in the corner as Zakiah didn't seem to be the foolish sort of woman who would be interested in such a melodramatic, idiotic display of affection. Unfortunately for everyone involved that was not the scene he witnessed. Aiolus was knocked unconscious and Zakiah blinded. After checking that they were both alive he notified the appropriate authorities and returned to Zakiah's side to ascertain just what happened. He would be very disappointed if she'd had anything to do with this; she seemed so promisingly intelligent. As it turned out it was his dolt of a brother at fault. Really, it was a good thing the man had been unconscious or Janus might have made him that way for blowing up their damned experiment. A bevy of Healers and other such personnel arrived by then and took the three of them to Saint Mungo's, never mind Janus's protestations that he hadn't even been there for the blast and would really rather try to salvage what might be possible. But no, all of them must be checked for possible spell damage at the least. Janus, of course, checked out just fine and had the dubious pleasure of waiting in the hospital's tea room for news of his coworker and fool of a brother. As it turned out, the explosion had effectively turned what brains Aiolus had into scrambled eggs. The magical damage done to Zakiah's vision seemed intimately woven into her magical core, making recovery unlikely if even possible. The project itself was completely destroyed and the Ministry was not looking to restart it at this point in time. In other words, shit was fucked. With Aiolus a permanent resident of Saint Mungo's ward for the mentally damaged, the Belmonte family made an appropriate display of dismay and made an appropriately sized donation to the hospital. They generally visit as a family once a month and politely engage the madman in his delusions of assorted fluffy critters and so on. Then they go back to their daily lives. For Janus this means assisting Zakiah with her new PR position for the Department of Mysteries, making up for her lack of sight. He also does no small amount of consultation for the department in which they both once worked. All these whispers of Voldemort's return struck a chord with Janus. Although he personally thinks the man likely to be completely mad after near or psudeo death all those years ago, he feels that it might be useful for him if it's at all true. While he has no intention of committing himself to the service of a Dark Lord who got himself killed by an infant the first time around, he could certainly make use of the minions collected if he plays his cards right. Presently Janus still unsure if there is even any truth to such rumors, but he's keeping his ears peeled. now for the person behind the character alias: Aine age: 25 experience: 9+ years where'd you find us?: site hopping, but I've moved in now anything to add?: I'm drowning in relatively nice characters for the first time in my life. lastly the roleplay sample See Ashwyn, Rhiannon, or Corwin [style=padding-right:5px; padding-left:9px; font-family:georgia; font-size:10; letter-spacing:0px; color:#fff;line-height:10px; text-align:center; border-left:0px dotted black; text-transform:uppercase; padding-bottom:0px; text-shadow: 0 0 0.2em #F87, 0 0 0.2em #F87;] Credit goes to MDIZZLE FO RIZZLE at Caution 2.0 |
